If I DO like the movie, it's usually because it just happens to focus on a character or a plot point in the novel that really resonated with me.Citizen Carriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12481323943813270047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414027.post-48654849414420925832008-02-20T12:22:00.000-05:002008-02-20T12:22:00.000-05:00In film, I want to see characters the way I imagin...In film, I want to see characters the way I imagined them in the book. Even if you wrote, directed, cast, starred in, and edited the film, I suspect it still couldn't match what you saw/felt when reading the book. The Critichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14649685715108221607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6414027.post-11967957647609626122008-02-20T10:53:00.000-05:002008-02-20T10:53:00.000-05:00I understand, to an extent, your dismissal of thos...I understand, to an extent, your dismissal of those who link their judgment of screen adaptations to the novels themselves. Perhaps a film should stand alone, evaluated through independent criteria. However, I cannot imagine detaching myself so thoroughly from my reading of a novel as to not make comparisons when watching the film. In film, I want to see characters the way I imagined them in the book. I want to see themes that I felt were important explored. In the end, I want to see my vision up there on the big screen.

Of course, that sounds terribly egocentric and close-minded, as if the only representation that matters is mine. But it's not that another's perspective won't be interesting or good, it will just never be as interesting or meaningful as that which is created in my head.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
