I have to admit, this, via the BBC, kind of shocked me.
US BEST-SELLERS OF 2005
1 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - JK Rowling
2 A Million Little Pieces - James Frey
3 The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
4 1776 - David McCullough
5 The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
Source - Nielsen BookScan
I had gotten the very distinct impression that Dan Brown had done remarkably better than fifth place. The Kite Runner did better than that? Really? I can't even recall seeing it's name on any in-store promotional materials. A Million Little Pieces? I don't even know what that's about. I haven't even heard of it. Where have I been? Zeitgeists going on all around me while I vacuum the house and wash dishes, I guess.
